High-Speed Synchronous Reluctance Machines: Materials Selection and Performance Boundaries

چکیده

This paper presents a comprehensive comparative design exercise of Synchronous Reluctance (SyR) machines considering different soft magnetic materials and wide range speeds. First, general methodology able to consider all the consequences selecting is presented. In fact, non-linearities, rotor structural limitations rise both stator iron losses are considered. The adopted approach allows achieving optimal geometries balancing these competitive multi-physics aspects keeping constant cooling system capability. Both silicon-iron (SiFe) cobalt-iron (CoFe) alloys with optimized mechanical performance examined assess maximum capabilities achievable SyR machine technology. adoption CoFe leads that outperform SiFe counterparts up certain speed, above which, provide better performance. Indeed, in lower speed range, effect higher saturation flux density dominant, while for speeds, their yield strength, respect ones, make latter more convenient. All considerations finally validated by comparing predicted experimental test results on 6.5kW, 80krpm prototype.

Comparison of Synchronous Reluctance Machines with High-Anisotropy Rotors

In terms of torque capability, power factor and efficiency, synchronous reluctance machines with high-anisotropy rotors represent an alternative to conventional induction machines. In particular, they have very robust rotors and can therefore operate at constant power in a wider field-weakening range. The paper discusses a comparison of the various machine concepts using an identical machine ge...

Performance Comparison of Conventional Synchronous Reluctance Machines and PM-Assisted Types with Combined Star–Delta Winding

This paper compares four prototype Synchronous Reluctance Motors (SynRMs) having an identical geometry of iron lamination stacks in the stator and rotor. Two different stator winding layouts are employed: a conventional three-phase star connection and a combined star–delta winding. In addition, two rotors are considered: a conventional rotor without magnets and a rotor with ferrite magnets. The...

Nonlinear PI current control of reluctance synchronous machines

This paper discusses nonlinear proportional-integral (PI) current control with anti-windup of reluctance synchronous machines (RSMs) for which the flux linkage maps are known. The nonlinear controller design is based on the tuning rule “Magnitude Optimum criterion” [1]. Due to the nonlinear flux linkage, the current dynamics of RSMs are highly nonlinear and, so, the parameters of the PI control...
